Our tourist day started a little late, but we walked a lot and saw many great sights. It all started with the Danish Music Museum, which has historic instruments from all over the world. The most unusual is probably this,
a violin that was intended to have a superior tone compared to the more familiar shape. It’s probably just as well that the tone was actually muddy, and the blobbo shape did not catch on. Salvador Dalí may be unhappy, but musicians who carry their violins around are probably OK with it.
At the Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome some years ago we saw a mandolin made from the body (or at least the back) of an armadillo. So this instrument
made me happy. It’s about the size of a big ukulele, and it comes from South America. I don’t know what animal contributed its skin the hairy body of this instrument.
This museum has a sound-proofed room

in which you can try out various instruments yourself. After booming on the tympani a bit, I also tried the colorful tubes at the back of the room.

You use the small ping-pong paddle to tap the top of the tubes, sort of like playing a xylophone. Very fun.
