On the High Sea (not really)
We left Copenhagen Wednesday afternoon for Oslo. These days, it’s no longer possible to take the train, because (a) look at the map; it’s a long way over land, and (b) it’s less expensive and faster to fly.
However, we went by boat, overnight. (Apparently a lot of Chinese tourists do, too.) Here’s the ship, seen through a fence near the dock:

And here’s a view of our fancy room:
which is bigger than some hotel rooms we’ve stayed in. (Maybe that tells you something about our hotel choices.) This overnight travel was very luxurious compared to the overnight trains we’ve taken in Spain and France, with their tiny bunks and constant motion.
The dinner buffet had all kinds of food, including of course three different kinds of pickled herring, sushi, and Vietnamese salad, to name only a few dishes. Here’s the buffet salon:
where we and the rest of the horde enjoyed more food than we needed.
The ship rolled a bit from time to time during the night, but it wasn’t disturbing. I got up barely in time to catch the sunrise

and we landed in Oslo comfortably after breakfast — another buffet extravaganza. By late morning we were at the home of our HomeExchange friends, who had stayed with us earlier this year.
So yes, we could have made the trip much faster by flying, but how much fun is that?
