Another stop along the way out to the coast was a place called Solitaire — a better name in its context than, say, Metropolis. It may be a town where people actually live, but it’s at least a truck stop, with gas (petrol), tire repair, a small motel, world-famous apple pie, and a starting point for hot-air balloon rides. Its exterior design is catchy:
